Court Records

The Bernalillo County Clerk of Courts is responsible for processing circuit court case records, among other duties. Court records are documents generated during legal proceedings, such as criminal case files, bankruptcy records, and records from family or probate court. They contain information about these legal proceedings, including names of the parties involved, dates of hearings, testimony and evidence, and rulings in cases. Court records are kept in office for a period of time and then disposed of or archived. Most are considered public records, though some information may be redacted when copies are provided to the public. In some cases, court records may be sealed and require a court order to access, but many others can be accessed easily online. The current Clerk of the Court is Cynthia Hernandez-Madrid.

Bernalillo County court records may be accessed in several ways. A Case Lookup portal can be used to locate New Mexico Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, District Court, Magistrate Court and Municipal Court data. Municipal court data is limited to criminal Domestic Violence and DWI historic convictions from September 1, 1991 onwards.

Requests for copies of court records may be made directly to the Clerk of the Court’s office. Requests should provide the name and contact information of the person making the request, as well as enough information to identify the records. This may include some or all of the following: the full name of the plaintiff, defendant, and/or attorney; the case number; the date range; and/or the document type. Copies of court records may incur a fee.
